Right now, there are so many processes that require coding. With simple to intermediate experience with programming, you can create functional websites or nifty little tools to make some random tasks easier.

Also, basic coding skills are required in one too many job positions nowadays.

So, you may be interested in taking online courses for coding, but may not be ready to make some financial commitment. Thus, you should start by taking free courses. There are a number of them out there on the internet.

Mastering MS Excel VBA for Beginners

This course is one of the easiest ways to get started with programming. It teaches how to code using Excel. This is great because if you already have average computer experience, chances are that you know how to use Spreadsheets.

And, you don’t have to use Excel for this process. Other Spreadsheets, like Google Sheets, can work too.

3. Codeacademy

Over 45 million people have taken online courses for coding through Codeacademy. It’s one of the most reliable places to learn coding for free. The available courses are suited for different levels of learning.

The courses you can learn here are HTML & CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Bash/Shell, Python, Ruby, and C++.

4. thenewboston

Thenewboston is a YouTube channel that teaches coding. It is a great source of coding knowledge, with more than 4,000 videos across different topics around coding.

The topics found on the channel are programming, game development, and design. It’s one of the more popular video resources for coding as there are over two million people subscribed to the channel.

The specific programming videos they offer for free are Android development, C programming, MySQL, Python, etc.

5. Upskill

Fancy coding up some startup project?

Yeah, that’s what you will be doing with Upskill. It is a free project-based, web development bootcamp. As a part of this online course for coding, you will build a fictional startup called DevMatch. Doing this will help you learn to code features found in sites like Facebook, Dropbox, and Salesforce.

The available courses in the bootcamp are HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git, Bootstrap, Ruby on Rails, etc.

6. MIT Open Courseware

Here is your chance to learn programming at one of the best universities in the world.

The courses in their online library are actual subjects that are taught in the school. The classes range from Introduction to Computer Science, Programming in Python, to language courses like MatLab, Java, C, and C++.

The catch is that their courses for coding are not for beginners. But, if you are ready to get some advanced learning in programming, then you are good to go for it.

7. edX

EdX is another source for online courses for coding. It is an open-source platform that was founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012. Now, the site includes 53 schools, and there are over 600 courses in the “computer science” category.

Available programming courses: Java, C#, Python, and many more.

8. Udacity

Udacity is a digital education platform where you can take online courses for coding. It is a large resource for critical tech skills for work.

They have nearly 200 free coding courses that you can learn from. Additionally, there are “Nanodegrees” that are meant to train you for particular careers in the workforce. Course materials are generally free. However, you are required to pay tuition fees for nano degrees.

The topics you will learn with the free courses are apps creation, preparing for interviews, writing cover letters, cryptography back-end/front-end development, graphics, VR, and much more.
